Fishing

Although Victoria is not usually regarded as a major fishing port, a fleet of some 30 vessels uses the area in the harbour called “Fisherman’s Wharf” as its base. While Victoria is much closer to the West Coast fishing grounds than ports on the Mainland, transport of the catch to large markets is problematical and to some extent the size of the fleet is determined by the demand on Vancouver Island. There is no fishing in the harbour itself.
